Trace a North Haven Address Trail
Start with the full address: number, street name and type, unit, ZIP, any old name, and whether it is a parcel, condominium unit, business site, or mailing address. That check keeps a tax contact separate from the physical place. In North Haven, the assessor is the ownership lead, while voter and directory records answer narrower questions.
- Run the address through North Haven PropertyRecordCards. Narrow the location first, because a blank location searches all locations.
- Open North Haven MapGeo, identify the parcel and nearby polygons, and record the parcel number or MBL.
- Use the Connecticut voter lookup for a town-specific registration signal. Protected or inactive records may not appear as expected.
- Take the assessed owner and legal parcel to the Town Clerk's Cott index. Search the owner as grantee, then follow the prior grantor.
- Compare the address with a historical street guide or criss-cross source. An entry is an occupancy clue, not proof of title.
The order matters. The assessor identifies a card, GIS places it on the ground, the voter lookup supplies a limited signal, and the deed index records transfers. Historical sources can fill an earlier period, but no result creates a complete household list.
North Haven Assessor Address Search
North Haven's PropertyRecordCards separates Property Search from Sales Search. For street work, use Property Search. It recommends a last-name-only owner search, and blank location searches all locations. Save each narrowed result before opening its blue street-name card.
| Field | Type | Required | Options or format notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Property Use | multi-choice/select or checkbox group | no | Apartments; Automotive; Cell Tower; Church; Commercial Condominiums; Elderly; Entertainment; Farms/Barns; Industrial; Lodging; Miscellaneous Areas; Office; Public Use; Residential; Restaurant; Retail; School; Special Purpose; Vacant Land. |
| Owner Name (Last First) | text | no | Instruction says use only last name, e.g. Smith; owner registration and one-category-at-a-time warning. |
| Location (#/Name/unit) | text | no | Street number/name/unit; all locations if blank. |
| Street type control | select | no | Rendered as “Select”; exact options were not located in HTML. |
| MBL | text | no | Parcel/map-block-lot style identifier; format not stated. |
| Unique Identifier | text | no | Exact format not stated. |
| Condominium Complex | select | no | Options not exposed in rendered HTML. |
| Search/reset controls | buttons/inputs | not applicable | Rendered controls were unlabeled in text; do not invent labels. |
Results show Street Name, Number, Unit, Name, Uniqueid, MBL, Property Use, Acres, Zone, Buildings, and Condo Complex. Sales Search adds property type, date, price, acreage, MBL, zone, location, design, living area, year built, rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms. These filters help date transfers, not establish a household.
The North Haven assessor search capture shows the fields used for a street pass.
At the October 1, 2024 revaluation, North Haven assessments use 70 percent of estimated market value. The card is not a resident roll.
North Haven GIS Parcel Context
MapGeo places the assessor parcel on the ground, showing its shape and touching polygons. Compare the street line, boundary, and adjacent parcels; a rear lot or condominium may sit beside a street without its number.
Text access did not expose MapGeo's current search fields, layer names, identify labels, or neighbor tools. Confirm a parcel click, parcel ID or MBL, address, and any layers visually before citing them.
The North Haven MapGeo viewer capture is the visual reference for the parcel step.
GIS shows geometry, not every person. Save the map date and parcel ID, then return to the official card or deed.
Note: MapGeo's current layer list and neighbor-click tools were not exposed in text capture, so confirm them visually before describing a result.
North Haven Street Records by Source
Address records describe different relationships. Assessors name an assessed owner or entity, deeds record transfers, permits describe work, and voter results give a narrow signal. A reliable address reference keeps those roles separate.
| Address-keyed source | What a street search can responsibly say | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Assessor card | Assessed owner or entity, parcel ID, use, physical characteristics, valuation, and mailing-versus-situs distinction | Not a current occupant list; older retention was not located. |
| MapGeo parcel | Parcel location, adjacent geometry, and current layers after visual confirmation | JavaScript fields and layers need a visual check. |
| Cott deeds | Recorded grantor and grantee, transfer dates, legal description, and referenced maps | Login or payment; tax and sewer liens are absent; electronic dates begin in 1965. |
| Maps and surveys | Subdivision or lot geometry and recorded map references | The certified-date row does not prove a continuous online run. |
| Tax and sewer liens | Obligations that do not appear in Cott | Ask the Tax Collector, WPCA or Public Works, and the Town Clerk vault. |
| Building permit | Address, project, applicant or contractor, inspections, and completion timing | Online index or case search was not located. |
| Civil property case | Foreclosure or covered property-case party and status | Case type and date limits apply. |
| Voter file | Registered-voter names or address fields where legally available | Full file is paid and use-restricted; protected records are not public. |
| Historical directory or newspaper | Time-specific occupants, businesses, moves, and family notices | Regional, spelling-sensitive, and never a complete household roll. |
Use MBL or Unique Identifier to tie a card to a parcel, and the legal description or map reference to connect a deed. Street names can span parcels and old spellings. Record source, date, and role together.
North Haven Deed Chain
North Haven land records are held by the Town Clerk and indexed through Cott, not a New Haven County recorder. Start with the assessed owner and legal parcel. Search the owner as grantee, read prior grantor, date, legal description, book and page or document placement, sale data when visible, and map reference. Repeat with the prior grantor, changing initials or entity spelling.
The North Haven Cott land-record gateway capture shows the login and certified-date route used before a deed search.
Cott's Certified Dates screen shows LAND RECORDS from 1/4/1965 through 5/14/2026, a MAPS & SURVEYS row dated 1/1/1901, and TRADE NAMES from 1/5/2010 through 5/14/2026. The gateway includes account and payment elements; post-login fields were not exposed without an account.
Cott says real-estate tax liens and sewer-use fee liens are not reported online. Tax-lien research goes to the Tax Collector and Town Clerk vault; sewer-use liens go to WPCA or Public Works and hard copies. A title chain can still omit both.
Note: A clean Cott result does not clear tax or sewer liens because both categories sit outside the online index.
North Haven Permits and Court Cases
North Haven's simple online permit/status route uses City Squared from 2021; older forms and office records still matter. Permits can identify an address, project, applicant or contractor, inspections, and a completion trail, but not prove occupancy.
The Judicial Branch property-address search checks covered civil matters. It accepts required town, optional partial street, optional full five-digit ZIP, property type Residential, Commercial, or All, status Active, Disposed, or All, case type, and Search. Coverage is limited by type and date.
The Connecticut property-address search capture shows the address and ZIP controls that can supplement a North Haven street search.
Use the court result for date, party role, and status, then ask the clerk or public terminal for a copy. An address match is a case connection, not proof of ownership or residence.
North Haven Voter Signals by Street
Connecticut's Secretary of the State lookup gives a town-specific registration signal, not a street roster. The route selects a town, takes a last name and first name, may request a birth date or year, and returns a match panel. Bot protection blocked exact live labels. North Haven registrars maintain the town file through Town Hall.
Public fields can include name, residence street, number, unit, city, ZIP, party, precinct or district, active or inactive status, registration, and voter history. DMV ID, Social Security number, and full birth date are not public. After Public Act 26-1 section 96, public birth is year only. History shows participation, not choice.
The full voter file is a separate CSV request with a $300 fee, payment details, and permitted-purpose certification. North Haven Registrars are reached through Town Hall extension 640. It is not a shortcut around the lookup or a household directory.
No match may reflect inactivity, name variation, another town, a protected voter, or Safe at Home. It is not proof of vacancy.
North Haven Street Names Across Time
Older North Haven address work can fail when a modern street label is treated as permanent. Historical sources name Washington Avenue and Pool Road, a bridge near Broadway and State, and later or local roads such as Quinnipiac Avenue, Blue Hills Road, Sackett Point, Blakeslee Avenue, and Clintonville Road. Northeast Village, Clintonville, and Pines Bridge are historical place names, not verified current neighborhood boundaries.
The 1868 map, 2023 Mail-A-Map, assessor maps, and planning maps help compare routes. No official renumbering, renaming, E911, annexation, or parcel-format guide was located. Test old spelling, route, cross street, legal description, and map reference.
Use the North Haven Historical Society chronology for local road and place-name context, while keeping the legal parcel tied to the assessor or Town Clerk record.
Criss-Cross Leads for North Haven
A historical street source can connect an address to a past occupant or business. North Haven appears in NARA's 1930 regional directory source and other checkpoints from 1928 through 1943. Because the volumes are regional, use the locality index. Search the name section, then the street guide, and keep the printed spelling, initials, spouse, boarder, or "rem to" entry with the year.
The North Haven Library genealogy route and regional archives are better fallback channels than an assumed town-only reverse directory. Ask for reverse, criss-cross, telephone, or street volumes by year. An entry can show an address or move without proving a deed or full household.
For collection context, the North Haven historical city directory page carries regional shelf details. Street work should borrow only the year and address clue needed to bridge a parcel.
Note: A regional directory entry can place North Haven in a New Haven volume without making the address a New Haven city address.
North Haven Fallbacks and Address Terms
When online search stops, contact the custodian. Memorial Town Hall at 18 Church Street handles Town Clerk land records, maps, surveys, trade names, and paper-vault questions. Town Clerk: 203-239-5321 extension 630; Tax Collector: extension 620. WPCA or Public Works handles sewer liens. Counter and phone contact matter for certified copies.
Connecticut FOI covers non-exempt public records under CGS 1-200 through 1-242, especially 1-210. Send a written request to the custodian holding a permit, map, assessment, police, or tax record. Four business days without a response may be a denial; appeals go to FOIC within 30 days. FOI does not override protected voter, vital, sealed court, DMV, or safety rules.
The Connecticut FOI guidance explains requests and appeals. Library and archive channels fill older gaps through town guides, directory catalogs, and paper collections.
Four terms keep an address search precise:
- Parcel
- A legal unit of land tracked by an assessor card, identifier, MBL, map, or recorded description.
- Situs address
- The physical North Haven location of a parcel or building, distinct from the tax-mail address.
- Plat
- A recorded map or survey showing lot lines, subdivision layout, or references tied to a legal description.
- Criss-cross directory
- A reverse directory that starts with an address or street and leads to a name. No North Haven-only run was verified.
On August 17, 2026, the Town homepage said the Assessor's Office moved back to Memorial Town Hall. Recheck the notice before visiting.
The North Haven Fields View Only page is another town-linked route, but its field and date inventory was not exposed.
A view-only label does not establish searchable fields, currency, or whether a result can be certified.
North Haven Address Record Limits
Ownership, registration, and occupancy differ. Assessor and deed records concern ownership; voter matches are limited. None is a complete list of household members, visitors, utility customers, or delivery recipients. DMV data is restricted, and protected records may be suppressed.
Lawful personal research. North Haven address and public-record sources can support a specific family-history, property, civic, or safety question. Do not use a street search to stalk, harass, intimidate, or expose a protected person.
Keep the purpose narrow, preserve the record date, and verify a material fact with the office that holds it. When the goal changes from a whole street to one named person, use the North Haven resident lookup workflow instead of treating a street result as a personal profile.
